I am a big fan of Japanese cars, as you will notice from the sidebar. My favourite car of all of them is the Nissan 200SX S13. My taste in cars is dictated mostly by the shape of the car, which is why the 200SX is my all-time favourite. Following closely in second place is the Honda NSX, then Mazda RX-7.
Non-japanese cars that I also admire are the Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Chev Corvette (C5), Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari 360, Ferrari 550 and McLaren F1. I love cars that are sleek, low to the ground, with sharp noses, fairly long overhangs, and I like pop-up headlights.
Cars that I have owned or still own (in the order that I bought them):
- 1995 Honda Ballade 160i, Imperial Red (known overseas as the Honda Civic). This was my first car, bought in October 1997 and driven for 200000km. Sold in October 2006. Absolutely loved this car - very reliable, solid performer (88kw out of a 1600, high revving unit), good looks and wonderfully slick gearbox.
- 1992 Nissan 200SX, red. This was my second car bought in March 2001, and a dream car that I've wanted since I first laid eyes on this model back at university. Read all about it at: http://200sx.za.net. Still my most favourite car!
- 1996 Nissan Sentra 160, White. Bought in 2004, sold in September 2006. A cheap but reliable car bought for my wife to drive around in. Like most Nissans, a very under-rated car.
- 2003 Toyota RunX RSi, Mica Red. Bought in June 2006. This car has improved my image of Toyota somewhat - it has an amazing engine that puts out loads of torque at almost idle, while still managing to scream out 147kW at over 8000rpm! Engine's so good it's used in the Lotus sports car! However, it's a very difficult car to drive in traffic due to said torque that wants to launch your car ballistically into the car in front of you! And if you try to ease the clutch in very slowly, engine stalls. Also has a very notchy, clickety gearbox. Way too high for my liking (car and seating position), and not the most desirable shape. This is now my wife's daily car. Good fuel consumption!
- 2002 Honda S 2000. Bought in October 2006. Another dream car! Sits next to my other dream car in my garage! This is an amazing car to drive! Re-affirms my faith in Honda as one of the best manufacturers of cars in the world! Best looking roadster, best handling, best engine in it's class (177kW from a 2 litre normally aspirated engine!), best value for money for a roadster! Not the best of fuel efficiency, though, but that's what you'd expect. Won the Top Gear Survey of all cars in the UK for three consecutive years from 2004. It's engine won best in class for 5 consecutive years. It even appears in the top 10 list of most reliable cars! Read more about it at Wikipedia
